“Sri Lanka was invaded by enemy forces from time to time and
everytime it emerged as an independent sovereignty resulting from the
great endeavours of our war-hero-forefathers, guided by gallant kings.
Today the country is peaceful, independent and enthusiastic due to
efforts of President Mahinda Rajapaksa who eradicated LTTE terrorism,”
the Minister said after inaugurating the first day Mihintale Aloka Pooja
(Mihintale Illuminating Program) organized by Lake House for the 48th
year in association with Ceylon Electricity Board and Abans. He said the
Buddha had preached that providing light or illuminating was similar to
offering eyes and a highly meritorious act.
In this context Lake House with CEB joining hands have been
performing a unique, incomparable and yeomen service by illuminating the
historic Mihintale Sacred City for 30 years, he said.
Before switching on the Aloka Pooja, the Chief Incumbent of Mihintale
Raja Maha Viharaya performed the religious observances including Pansil.
ANCL Editorial Director Seelaratne Senarath also addressed the
gathering. |
