Best student - Faculty of Medicine 2009
Dakshitha P. Wickramasinghe was awarded the Sumanawathie de Costa
jubilee award for the best student of the faculty of medicine at the
recently concluded convocation of the University of Colombo.

Wickramasinghe excelled at his studies and secured a first class at
the introductory basic sciences stream, the applied sciences stream and
the cumulative MBBS examination with distinctions in anatomy,
physiology, pharmacology, clinical medicine and obstetrics and
gynaecology. In view of his excellent academic performance, he was
awarded the Professor K. N. Seneviratne prize in Physiology, Professor
Senaka Bibile prize in Pharmacology, N. S. O. Mendis gold medal in
Pharmacology, Mylopulle silver medal for Pharmacology, Professor S. S.
Ratnam book token for Gynaecology.
At this young age, Wickramasinghe has a number of publications to his
credit and has presented scientific papers in various conferences and
seminars. He has also shown keen interest in aesthetic and cultural
activities, dancing and music and won medals in ballroom and Latin
dancing.
He has also won both faculty of medicine and university colours for
tennis during 2004-2006.
In addition, he was awarded the Canekeratne award for general merit
by the University of Colombo for the year 2009, considering the academic
performance, leadership skills and exemplary conduct and character.
He received the primary and secondary education at Nalanda College,
Colombo and he excelled in twin spheres of academic and extra curricular
activities.
He is the son of Walter and Ramani Wickramasinghe and the grandson of
late Mr and Mrs D. S. Wickramasinghe of Matara and of late Mr. and Mrs.
Benjamin Polwatte of Dehiwela. |
