Eliminating worst forms of child labour
A conference under the theme Zero Worst Forms of Child Labour by 2016
- Sharing Experiences to Achieve the Goal will be held in Colombo from
June 21 to 23. Labour Relations and Productivity Promotion Minister
Gamini Lokuge will be the Chief Guest at the inaugural session Child
Development and Women’s Affairs Minister Tissa Karaliyadda will be the
Guest of Honour.
This event hosted by the Labour Relations and Productivity Promotion
Ministry in collaboration with the International Labour Organization.
The Ministry will present the Roadmap, which envisions that all worst
forms of child labour will be eliminated in Sri Lanka by 2016 and there
will be institutional capacities and mechanisms to maintain the zero
worst forms of child labour situation and to work towards the
elimination of all forms of child labour. Participants at the Conference
will discuss the context and the key issues of the Roadmap.
These include judicial services and enforcement, trafficking,
tourism, plantations, post-conflict socio-economic re-integration,
school-to-work transition, social protection and mainstreaming child
labour in key development policies and programs.
