The injured baby being treated

Mother jumps to train hugging her baby

A mother hugging her baby daughter had jumped into the Colombo bound train from Medawachchiya recently and sustained serious injuries.

The incident had taken place in a close proximity to the Anuradhapura main bus stand. At the accident both the mother and daughter were thrown away from the rail track. Passengers in the bus stand had taken them to the Anuradhapura hospital.

 

 

 

 

 


Wild elephants threaten Kurunegala villagers

Over 3,000 residents in Galgamuwa, Polpitigama, Yapahuwa, Giribawa and Migalewa Divisional Secretariat areas in the Kurunegala district live in fear of wild elephants.

The villagers complain that a herd of wild elephants roam in their villages at night and destroy their crops.

These elephants have damaged properties and destroyed crops in Migalewa, Palukadawala, Bingpokuna, Walaswewa, Mahagalkadawala and Kumbukwewa, in Galgamuwa and Yapahuwa areas.

According to villagers the elephants had destroyed approximately 1,000 coconut trees grown during the past two years. The marauding animals has destroyed several houses too.

The villagers urge the authorities to formulate a foolproof and reliable system to protect them from wild elephants.

Police recover floating body

The Mihintale police found a body floating in the Mahakanadarawa wewa yesterday morning. The police said the deceased is about 53 years old and had clad in a sarong. The body is lying at the Anuradhapura general hospital mortuary.


Fifteen injured

A private bus skidded off the road and over turned injuring 15 passengers in Kosgama along the Awissawella-Colombo road yesterday morning.

According to Police sources, the private bus was bound for Embilipitiya from Colombo.

The injured were admitted to the Kosgama hospital for treatment.


Josephian Walk 2010

The Josephian Walk 2010 will be held on July 18 Commencing at 12 noon at the college premises. The walk will start by 12 noon and via Lipton Circus, it would reach the main gates and it will be followed by the carnival which would consist of food stalls, garments, A fashion show and above all the musical show with stars and bands of repute!

The Royal College Group 82 will hold their annual get-together on June 12 at 8 p.m. at Orient Club, Colombo 7.
