Navy to the rescue: The Sri Lanka Navy rescued two critically-ill fishermen in the Eastern deep seas Friday. They were rescued and provided with emergency medical treatment on board Sri Lanka Naval Ship Sayura and were rushed ashore after a mid-sea transfer by a fast Naval vessel for further medical treatment at the Trincomalee General Hospital. The fishermen had left for fishing in a one-day fishing vessel from the Kalmunai Fisheries Harbour on May 17, 2010 and had been in distress while in the Eastern deep seas. Sri Lanka Navy was informed by the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Department. The Navy’s Offshore Patrol Vessel SLNS Sayura was dispatched on the rescue mission and the fishing vessel was sighted 600 kilometres east of Kalmunai.


Murder case suspect killed

A suspect of a murder case detained in remand jail and later released on bail was killed by attacking with a club and a sword. This murder was committed in Sirigampala, Vennappuwa on June 2 and the deceased was Saman Buddhika Asela Kumara (28) of Sirigampala. The cause of the murder was an old feud.
