The prevailing rainy weather will intensify during the next three or four days although the onset of the South West Monsoon yet to be experienced, a Meteorology Department Senior Official told the Daily News yesterday.

He added that some changes in the wind pattern at the higher level of the atmosphere is being observed as indicative of the South West Monsoon rains. Showers and thundershowers can be expected in the Western, Southern and Central parts of the country together with strong thunder and lightning, he said.

The sea in the Southern and Western parts of the country will be rough and fishermen have been advised to avoid going out to sea.

Meanwhile the Colombo Municipal Council has taken certain measures to expedite the garbage collection process which was interrupted due to heavy rains experienced last month causing floods in the city.

Meanwhile the heavy rains experienced in the Nuwara Eliya district during the last week has adversely affected vegetable cultivators sustaining heavy losses. It is the main reason for high prices of upcountry vegetables at the Colombo central vegetable market.
