Saving people from terrorism:
President sets example to world
Peace walk from South to North:
Nihal Jayawardena
President Mahinda Rajapaksa has set an example to the whole world by
saving the people of his country from the clutches of a band of
terrorists who resorted to violence, said the Most Ven. Udugama Sri
Buddharakkhita Mahanayake Thera of the Asgiriya Chapter.
He said this when a group of 20 youth from Giruwapattuwa on a peace
walk from the South to the North called on him at his official Aramaya
to seek his blessings recently.
The peace walk on the theme Giruwapattuwen thal aranata -
sahodarathwaye pa gamana is organised by Tharunyata Hetak chairman Namal
Rajapaksa MP on the guidance of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The prelate said the President is providing proper guidance to the
country and its people after defeating terrorists who created problems
to people of all communities on the basis that a democratically elected
government is duty-bound to protect its people and cater to their
welfare at all costs.
He said peace walk would go a long way to erase the wrong impressions
harboured by the international community against Sri Lanka. The group of
youth led by their organiser Ruwan Nishanta Silva and Secretary Janaka
Karunaratne earlier visited the Sri Dalada Maligawa and paid homage to
the Sacred Tooth Relic.
The peace walk which started from Carlton House, Tangalle on May 19
will take 28 days to complete a distance of 635 kilometres. |
