Competitions update students’ knowledge

An oratorical competition for the Anuradhapura district
schoolchildren, organized and sponsored by the Lake House as a main
component of the forthcoming Mihintale Poson religious celebrations was
held on June 5 at the Mihintale Maha Vidyalaya premises.
The competition had been organized for the 48th time by the
Budusarana newspaper of Lake House.
Budusarana Editor Nelson Perera said at the inauguration of the Poson
inter-school oratorical competition that the Associated Newspapers of
Ceylon Ltd (ANCL) founded by distinguished journalist late D. R.
Wijewardene, has been instrumental in the implementation of religious
and educational development programs in Anuradhapura and Mihintale.
He said the intention of holding an oratorical competition was to
create a skillful and righteous schoolchildren in society, while
assisting them to update their knowledge in various subjects.
The Budusarana editor said a large number of schoolchildren observed
Ata-Sil on June 6 beneath historic Mihintale ridge, with all requisites
including white clothes provided free by the Lake House.
The winners were awarded cash prizes of Rs. 15,000, Rs. 10,000 and Rs.
7,500 respectively for those emerged first, second and third.
