TRC recovers over 200 lost mobiles

The Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (TRC) has recovered over 200 stolen mobile phones last month acting on complaints by their owners.

This has been possible under a new scheme initiated by the TRC to recover lost phones, its Director General Anusha Pelpita said.

According to him the TRC has been able to trace these lost phones with the cooperation of the police and mobile phone service providers.

The method adopted in this operation has been to track down the lost phone using either the serial number of the phone or the mobile number.

The serial number of a phone could be obtained by typing * # 06 #, according to Pelpita.

The TRC is tracking down 800 other lost phones in accordance with complaints received by them.
