Country heading for bright future under President

The greatest achievement of President Mahinda Rajapaksa for the past forty years in politics was the empathic victory over terrorism last year. The political leadership given by the President Mahinda Rajapaksa steadfastly helped the Armed Forces to defeat and eliminate the LTTE, said Consumer Affairs Council Chairman, Senior Attorney at Law Upali Senaratne.

Senior Attorney Senaratne emphasised that the people of this country will be for ever beholden to President Mahinda Rajapaksa for bringing terrorism to an end and paving the path for the country’s development and prosperity.

The people of this country reposed their faith by giving President Mahinda Rajapaksa an overwhelming majority in both Presidential and Parliamentary elections held recently, he said.

Senior Attorney Senaratne added that Sri Lankans are confident that President Mahinda Rajapaksa will usher in economic prosperity and social stability within the next few years before his term is completed.

In Sri Lanka the most prestigious International Indian Film Academy Awards ceremony is being held. The world renowned Indian Film idol Amitabh Bachchan, the Brand Ambassador who visited Sri Lanka on April 20, 2010 described this country as very beautiful and the warm welcome he received was the best he ever had in his life. Who made this event a possibility in Sri Lanka?

It is none other than Sri Lanka’s President Mahinda Rajapaksa who brought peace to this country. President Mahinda Rajapaksa is a great admirer of Indian art and culture and cinema. The very holding of this ceremony indicates the atmosphere of peace in Sri Lanka, the Senior Attorney said.

We all remember what happened on December 14, 2004 to Sharruk Khan when he visited Sri Lanka for a musical performance. When he was having a gig with the dancers a bomb was hurled at him. Sharruk and Preity Zinta who were rattled and numbed left the country for Mumbai, the same night, he said.

Visit the North and the East which I have done more than four times for the past six months with the locals and foreigners; Schools are reopened, Market places are full of people, buying and selling what they grow. People are moving about happily and fearlessly. It is amazing to see the development taking place in every sphere of activity. This is a clear sign that Sri Lanka is heading towards a bright future after thirty years of trauma. This is a great achievement.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa always says that every child is his, to whichever community they belong and he will see that no one has tears of agony in their eyes but smiles full of happiness, joy and contentment in their faces, he said.

To pay a tribute to a friend known from Law College days is a great pleasure for me and his name has already gone into history as the person who brought enduring and lasting peace and who will bring economic prosperity to this resplendent country in the near future, Senior Attorney Senaratne added.
