Postal museum to be opened

The Post and Telecommunications Ministry will establish a national level museum for the post and communications sector.

The museum will be opened by President Mahinda Rajapaksa in line with the forthcoming World Post Day celebrations at the Post and Telecommunications Ministry at D.R. Wijewardene Mawatha, Colombo.

The Post and Telecommunications Ministry will exhibit all methods and instruments which had been used in the post and telecommunications sector. In addition they also plan to make the visitors aware of the latest technology which is used in the post and telecommunications sector at present. The first local stamp, the first world stamp, the most valuable stamp ever issued in Sri Lanka, post boxes, carts used for mail transportations, mail bags, old telephones, uniforms and many other instruments will be among the exhibits.

The museum would depict the glory of the department and technological changes, ways and methods in the post and telecommunications sector, Posts and Telecommunications Minister Jeewan Kumarathunga said.
