Tudawe engineering ensures IIFA Awards held in ideal air
conditioning
Tudawe Engineering Services, a subsidiary of Tudawe Brothers (Pvt)
Ltd has made its mark once again by completing the supply and
installation of the 600 tonne Air Conditioning System at the Sugathadasa
Indoor Stadium, to be used for the forthcoming IIFA Awards Ceremony.
Commenting on the project Tudawe Engineering Services, said "We had
just 30 days to complete this comprehensive project based on basic
drawings provided by the Consultants to the project, The State
Engineering Corporation (SEC) and their specialist Engineer Chandana
Dalugoda. Upon the successful bid for the tender we were awarded the
contract which was 35 percent lower than the closest contender.
Due to the pressure on the time line, the moment the verbal
confirmation was conveyed by the Chairman of SEC we had to get into
action.
We completed the detailed drawings within 24 hours and established
LC's for Chillers, Pumps, Air Handling Units and Cooling towers with key
suppliers on the same day.
Explaining on the complicated process for sourcing and acquiring the
necessary equipment "Chillers were sourced from Hitachi and York in
Singapore. The air handling units were from Ethos in India shipped in
two weeks and assembled on site.
The Euroflow pumps were manufactured and air freighted to Colombo
from Singapore in seven days, whilst the Hitachi chiller and BSE cooling
tower reached Colombo in 10 days by sea freight.
The logistics of getting the 60 foot long York chiller, the largest
air cool chiller to be installed in Sri Lanka became a great challenge.
Freight for this turned out to be 10 times more than the standard
costs of a 40 foot container as the carriers cashed in on the urgency. "
The project required the installation of a huge network of mega size
insulated GI Ducts (13,000 sq.ft) and large Insulated BI (black iron)
pipes (2,000ft) around the periphery of the Indoor Stadium at the roof
level, mounted on scaffolding framework, from ground. Over 125 Tudawe
technicians, engineers , supervisors, skilled and semi-skilled workers
worked round the clock for the full period to ensure the completion.
The entire system was successfully commissioned last week with the
assistance of foreign engineers and local engineers on time.
This achievement was very much appreciated by the Indian IIFA crew
who worked along with Tudawe's inside the stadium. Their appreciation
has been conveyed to Economic Development Deputy Minister Lakshman Yapa
Abeywardena and Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Board. |
