Bus depots in Colombo and Kandy have earned an additional income of
Rs. seven million and Rs. Six million respectively through special bus
services operated during Vesak on May 27 and 28.
This was revealed when Deputy Transport Minister Rohana Kumara
Dissanayake inspected the operation of special bus services launched by
the bus depots in Colombo and Kandy on May 27 and 28.
The Minster observed that officials from the Colombo and Kandy bus
depots had taken steps to provide additional bus services on time and
without any delay, for the convenience of the public.
"We deployed about 300 additional buses during this period for the
benefit of passengers across the country," he noted. The Sri Lanka
Transport Board deploys more buses during festival times to earn more
revenue.
He further said it is necessary to carry out a systematic plan to
increase the SLTB revenue which is a heavy bearing on the Treasury.
