Wildlife officials attached to the Ahenmedilla office at Elahera yesterday made a concerted effort to rescue a bear which had accidently fallen into a well belonging to Y.G. Upasena, a resident of Batuhena.

The bear had fallen into the well while straying into the village in search of food.

The bear which is about six years terrorized villages who ventured into the Ambanganga for a bath about a week ago. Officers said they hoped to tranquilize the animal and release it to the jungle after rescuing it.
