JKH leads Sustainability Reporting GRI check
The John Keells Groups Sustainability Report 2009/2010 became Sri
Lanka's first to achieve a GRI check by the Global Reporting Initiative
Organisation at a disclosure Level B(+).
Released to stakeholders on May 31, the report has also been assured
and verified by a third party Det Norske Veritas (DNV), in accordance
with Accountability AA1000 Assurance Standard (2008).
JKH Chairman Susantha Ratnayake stated, "We, collectively as an
entity, will continue this journey to address and balance our economic,
social and environmental responsibilities with our business priorities,
ensuring that the Group will continue to be a strong and sustainable
business leader in the future."
Sustainability reports based on the GRI framework can be used to
benchmark organisational performance against laws, norms, codes,
performance standards and voluntary initiatives. They demonstrate
organizational commitment to sustainable development and compare
organizational performance over time. The John Keells Group has also
extended its commitment to the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC)
through the GRI Indicators which are aligned to the respective Global
Compact Principles.
The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) is a network-based organisation
that has pioneered the development of the worlds most widely used
sustainability reporting framework and is committed to its continuous
improvement and application worldwide. |
