Street lighting ban for local bodies

All local bodies have been prohibited from fixing street lamps with effect from Monday, Power and Energy Minister Champika Ranawaka said.

According to a study carried out by the CEB in 2007 of the street lamps fixed islandwide 340,308 had been by the CEB and 60,000 by LECO.

It was revealed that about 300,000 street lamps had been fixed by local bodies illegally.
