Murder accused acquitted

Gampaha High Court Judge M.M.A. Gaffoor acquitted Wijelath Pedige Samantha Illangaratne, the accused in a murder case, when he was found not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

The Judge in his lengthy order stated that the evidence led by the prosecution was contradictory and the production was not sent to the Government Analyst to obtain a report about the production including the sword. The witnesses also not properly identified the productions and the sole eye-witness made contradictory statements while under cross examination.

The accused was charged with having committed the murder of Horathal Pedige Amaradasa of Pallewela, Mirigama on September 9, 1993.

Senior Attorney-at-Law D.A.P. Weeratna appeared for the accused Illangaratne.
