Murder accused acquitted

Gampaha High Court Judge M.M.A. Gaffoor acquitted Wijelath Pedige
Samantha Illangaratne, the accused in a murder case, when he was found
not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
The Judge in his lengthy order stated that the evidence led by the
prosecution was contradictory and the production was not sent to the
Government Analyst to obtain a report about the production including the
sword. The witnesses also not properly identified the productions and
the sole eye-witness made contradictory statements while under cross
examination.
The accused was charged with having committed the murder of Horathal
Pedige Amaradasa of Pallewela, Mirigama on September 9, 1993.
Senior Attorney-at-Law D.A.P. Weeratna appeared for the accused
Illangaratne.
