Time to amend Vihara and Devalagam Act

The time has come to amend the Vihara and Devalagam Act which was formulated several decades ago, Prime Minister and Buddhasasana and Religious Affairs Minister D.M. Jayaratne said.

Addressing a Daham Hamuwa at the Gampola Ambuluwawa All Religious and Bio-Diversity Complex, the Prime Minister said he would never hesitate to amend outdated legislation of if they obstructed the country's progress.

The Prime Minister who ledged a wide ranging program to propagate Buddhism emphasised that as the Religious Affairs Minister he was committed to ensure the rights of all religious denominations in the country. His objective was to create a disciplined society which could strengthen the Presidents efforts to develop the country.
