Gen Fonseka to be produced in court on June 7

Rajaratna directed the Army Commander to produce General Sarath Fonseka
in court again on June 7.
Deputy Solicitor General Wasantha Navaratna Bandara who appeared for
the Attorney General said the CID investigators had recorded a statement
of Kshenuke Seneviratne, Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to Geneva
in connection with a statement made by General Sarath Fonseka to a
week-end English newspaper.
Deputy Solicitor General Bandara in his lengthy submissions
emphasised that the Officials of the UNO had also inquired about this
statement from the Sri Lankan Ambassador.
The CID investigations had revealed that General Fonseka had made a
false statement to the English week-end newspaper. He will be charged
under the Criminal Procedure Code and under the Emergency Regulations,
Sections 28 and 29, the DSG said.
The CID had also recorded two statements from a journalist who had
recorded General Sarath Fonseka's statement and the proprietor of the
newspaper organisation. These two statements had been forwarded to the
Courts, the CID said.
Attorneys Gunaratne Wanninayake with Ajith Pathirana and Nilanthi
Pieris appeared for General Sarath Fonseka.
The case will be called again on June 7.
