Narada Dissasekara’s songs crossed barriers - President

President Mahinda Rajapaksa issuing a message of condolence on the death of veteran singer Narada Dissasekara said the contribution Narada had made to the vocal music of the country had left an indelible mark with a popularity that the small number of his songs created.

His hits like Galana Gangaki, Pipee Pipee or Mulu Hadin Mama had become so popular in their day but are appreciated even today as some of the best songs. Narada Dissasekara’s songs crossed the barriers of different eras. ”

Though he was such a popular singer he was a self effacing man who did not chase and hanker after popularity, the President stated.

“I offer my deepest sympathies to his son and wife. May he attain Nibbana the message said.”
