the increasing demand for their products in the international
market. The demand for our products has increased by more than 100
percent in the recent past and we are compelled to expand the company by
increasing staff by about 100 employees from engineers to technicians
immediately, Chairman Shelton Fernando told Daily News Business.
He said top level buyers in Japan have placed large orders and the
company will need new machinery and equipment as well.
The company’s Director Sarath Kalubowila said there is a huge digital
change taking place in Japan at present and the old analog system will
be replaced by the new digital TV broadcasting system by 2011.
International buyers of these components are getting ready to meet
this huge future demand and that is the reason for this demand increase.
“This is a great opportunity for Sri Lanka. We have the capacity and
capability to manufacture most of the components that our clients in
Japan want.
But it is not viable because we do not have manufacturers of these
components in our country.
There is a good potential for this industry in Sri Lanka. However, if
the Government can support us a large number of employment can be given
to our youth and earn a lot of foreign exchange to the country,”
Managing Director Fernando said.
The company will have to work 24 hours to meet the future demand.
He said there is a Sri Lanka corner in every Japanese hardware store
in Japan with Maruchi products.
During the recession a number of small companies could not survive
but Maruchi Lanka was able to survive because of its huge domestic
clientele in Japan. There was only a 5 to 10 percent drop in sales of
Maruchi Lanka during that period.
The company started with a Rs 5 million investment and employed over
100 workers initially.
The product range includes ceramic receivers, buzzers, directional
couplers actuators and Antenna oriented items. |
