Proposals to boost exports soon

Minister
Samarasinghe

The Plantations Industries Ministry is planning to come up with a set of proposals, both short and long-term in order to increase production and boost exports.

The newly appointed Plantation Industries Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe has called for proposals in this regard, from 14 Departmental heads coming under his purview.

Emphasis has been laid on increasing the output of Tea, Rubber and Coconut, Ministry sources said. Department heads have been tasked to come up with a five year development plan and a separate accelerated program for 06 months.

The proposals in this regard are to be handed over to the Minister no later than Tuesday. The new efforts have been initiated with the expectations of contributing to scaling down the cost of living and bringing down import expenditure in addition to the above.
