Laila heading for India

The Meteorological Department yesterday said that the low pressure condition heading towards India has develped into a cyclone which has been termed as "Laila".

According to the Met. Department's spokesman, Laila was heading towards India, 600 Km away from the North East of Jaffna peninsula. He added that Laila has resulted in heavy rains with gusty winds in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern Provinces and certain areas in the Kurunegala district.

He said the incessant rains experienced for the past four days will continue till cyclone "Laila" enters the mainland of India.

He said the low pressure conditon which was developing 700 Km from Trincomalee on Monday moved to the North East of Jaffna by noon yesterday.

"This bad weather condition experienced will continue for another 24 hours", he added.

Intermittent rains will occur in the North and North East sea off Sri Lanka, he added.
