Thomians - Lions clash for Saram Trophy
S.M. Jiffrey ABDEEN - Kandy Sports Corr
A keen contest could be expected when Trinity College take on S.
Thomas College, Mount Lavinia in their schools Presidents trophy under
19 Division I Segment A rugby tournament match is to be played at the
Pallekelle stadium today with the kick off at 4.30 p.m.
The match will be also played for the Canon R.S. de Saram Trophy
which has generated a lot of interest in the past.
The Trinitians won by the skin of their teeth last week when they
beat the then unbeaten Kingswood College 21-20. The last minute try
conversion by Kingswood's skipper Sansoni if succeseful would have
brought the second defeat for Trinity.
Trinity should learn from their mistakes and make amends if they are
to get the better of the Thomians especially playing in their home
ground where they practise too.
The Thomians on the other hand after winning their first two matches
lost to Isipathana 24-30 when they were expected to win. According to
reports of the last match, the Thomians took it easy in the first half
and tried to attack in the second half and this failed. It must be
recalled that the Pathans led 30-7 at one stage.
The Thomians should allow this to happen again as in a contact game
like rugby any injury to their key players could blast their hopes.
