Will Kandy make three in a row?
S.M. Jiffrey ABDEEN - Kandy Sports Corr
Defending Caltex rugby league champions Kandy Sports Club will make
their first appearance away from Nittawela when they take on Sri Lanka
Air Force in their Caltex League rugby tournament match to be played at
Ratmalana today with the kick off at 4.30 p.m.
Kandy C scored two comfortable victories defeating Havelock Sports
Club 44-0 and Police Sports Club 70-14 and could be expected to pile on
the points, especially with their speedy three quarters displaying every
good form.
They will go into this match with the services of national captain
Pradeep Liyanage, skipper Fazil Marija, centre Gayan Weeraratne and
flanker Dilip Selvam who are all in the injured list. On the plus side
full back Radhika Hettiarachchi returns to the side for the first time
this season and will strengthen the back division with his tear away
runs either as a full back or winger.
Last week Sri Lanka Air Force scored a fairly comfortable win over
Havelock Sports Club defeating them 20-3. But Kandy's win over Havelocks
was double this score.
Airmen's win was made to look comfortable in the second after they
clung on to a 8-3 in the initial half.
But they should put a much more stirring performance if they are to
make any impression against the marauding Kandyans who could tear any
defence even if a small opportunity prevails as evidenced against the
police last Sunday.
