Mano Ganesan writes to Ranil:
You have deceived DPF, Tamils
Democratic People’s Front (DPF) leader Mano Ganesan in a letter to
UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said he will not have any personal
meetings with him [Wickremesinghe] as he has deceived the DPF and the
Tamil people.

“No more personal meetings are necessary with you as we are convinced
that you have deceived my party and Tamil people. And we consider the
national list dispute over,” Ganesan said in his letter to
Wickremesinghe.
Ganesan was replying to Wickremesinghe’s letter dated May 10 where
Wickremesinghe had suggested further discussions.
The DPF statement: “UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has sent a letter
to our leader Mano Ganesan before he left to India. The letter was hand
delivered by Jayalath Jayawardene MP. The UNP leader has accepted
receiving a draft MoU from the DPF on the national list before the
nomination day. But Ranil Wickremesinghe as the leader of UNF failed to
address the issue but signed a secret MoU only with the SLMC.
He has invited SLFP (M) led by Mangala Samaraweera MP to join the UNP
outrightly dissolving his party. We are convinced that Ranil
Wickremesinghe has deceived our party by plan. The national list and the
status of the United National Front are not decided by the elections as
the UNF was not established for the purpose of elections only. It was
functioning prior to the elections. Our leader was in the forefront of
all Opposition campaigns in the last four years.
We fought for protection of human rights and good governance. We
entered the Presidential and general elections as UNF. But once the
elections were over, Ranil Wickremesinghe changed tone and nominated his
own men to Parliament.
It is a betrayal and breach of general understanding. This is an act
against the Tamil people. We will respond to this in the near future. We
consider the national list issue with Ranil Wickremesinghe’s leadership
is over and no more private discussions necessary with him.
We are watching the developments within UNP. Our party’s future path
will be explained to the media next week.” |
