Govt to rehabilitate street children

The Child Development and Women’s Empowerment Ministry will implement a rehabilitation program for street children, the Child Development and Women’s Empowerment Minister Tissa Karaliyadda said.

The Ministry has been conducting a survey and analysis regarding street children. After the analysis, the rehabilitation program will be implemented.

According to the rehabilitation program, the Ministry will give the children a proper education. After completing the preliminary and secondary education, the children will be directed to vocational training.

When the children reach 18 years they will receive vocational training.

The Ministry will seek the assistance of private and government institutions for providing vocational training. The Ministry will assist them to find a job, Minister Karaliyadda added. The Minister said the mentality of the street children has to be changed. The Ministry will educate street children about the value of them for the development of the country.

The children are in children’s homes have to leave children’s homes at the age of 18. These youths enter to the society without a job, most of the children don’t have their parents or guardians.

Therefore the Ministry will provide them with a suitable employment, the Minister said.
