Certificates to replace land deeds

An islandwide program to issue certificates of land ownership instead of deeds will be completed within 10 years, Lands and Land Development Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon said.

He said this process would be completed under the Bim Saviya program soon.

He said people have to wait 100 years to receive service from the Land Ministry. Land related disputes are common in Sri Lanka and people suffer much from these long drawn out issue. Therefore this Ministry has a great responsibility in solving all land related problems, he said.

He said this Ministry takes long time to serve the people in respect of their land disputes. If your service is not attended to, it will be carried over to another generation. Therefore, as people those who are paid by the people we have to work hard. It is our duty, the Minister added.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa assigned this Ministry to me with a confidence in my ability. I proved my ability in my previous Ministry and he kept his trust in me to offer this Ministry.

This Ministry is a key institution to work for the development. In a bid to achieve rapid development we have a big role to play.
