Drunk bus drivers' licences to be suspended

Arrangements are being made to suspend Western Province drunk private
bus drivers' driving licences for 10 years.
Transport Deputy Minister Rohana Kumara Dissanayake told the Daily
News following complaints by passengers, this action is being taken to
prevent road accidents caused by drunk driving.
"I will personally look into cases of drunk private bus drivers in
the Western Province," he said.
"According to last year's statistics, 315 lives were lost while
27,000 people sustained injuries due to road accidents. Therefore, it is
necessary to take stern action to control drunk driving by introducing
new regulations," he said.
"We seek public, Police and Private Bus Owners' Association
assistance to nab drunk private bus drivers," he said. |
