Lunugamvehera reservoir sluice gates opened

Four out of six sluice gates of the Lunugamvehera reservoir were opened yesterday as it reached spill level following heavy rains experienced in the area.

The gates were open six inches. Simultaneously the water level in the Kirindioya rose by around four feet since the spilling water from Lunugamvehera was released to the Kirindi Oya. Meanwhile Hambantota District Irrigation Engineer S. Kannagoda has warned residents around Kirindi oya to take precautionary measures in the wake of the swelling waters.
