Jaffna coming alive

Jaffna was experiencing a resurgence in economic, educational,
cultural and sports activities and children and adults alike are happy
with the freedom they enjoy. A complete change has come to the north in
the last one year and people were looking forward to much progress in
the next few months,
Northern Province Governor G.A. Chandrasiri told the Daily News
yesterday.
The Australian High Commission has started a housing scheme at
Kilinochchi and Australian High Commissioner Kathy Klugman visited the
site of the scheme today.
The Provincial Council has provided fishing gear valued at Rs. 20
million for fishermen of Mullaitivu and the NGO, Caritas is opening a
fishing net factory in Jaffna. An Information Technology exhibition
started at the public Library Jaffna.
Cricket and Football coaching camps have been organized for school
children and school children from the schools of the south were also
taking part in these camps held at the Wembady Girls' High School
grounds, Jaffna, he said.
The Indian High Commission is sponsoring a drama the Sanskrit
classic, Sakuntala at the Weerasigham Hall Jaffna, he said. The
Presidential Task Force headed by Economic Development Minister Basil
Rajapaksa, the Armed Forces and other government agencies had undertaken
3,000 tasks assigned to them and most of them have been completed, he
also said.
