Gas prices revised

The price of a 12.5 kg domestic Shell and Laugfs Gas cylinder has been increased by Rs. 219 and Rs. 323 with effect from midnight yesterday.

The price of a Shell (12.5 kg) Gas cylinder will be Rs. 1,769 and Laugfs cylinder revised to Rs. 1,844. The Price of 2.3 kg Shell cylinder has also been increased from Rs. 285 to Rs. 325.

Trade, Marketing Development, Consumer Affairs and Cooperatives Minister Johnston Fernando said yesterday the Government arrived at this decision after considering Gas prices in the world market.

Addressing the media at the Trade and Marketing Development Ministry, Minister Fernando added he will not hesitate to bring down the prices of gas when there is a drop in the world market prices.

He said the Government exempted tax on Gas during the last Christmas and New Year seasons. The Minister said the Government has to increase the price of Gas when there is a rise in the world market. Ministry Secretary Anura Siriwardena and Consumer Affairs Authority Chairman Rumy Marzook were present.
