Steps will now be taken to streamline the postal service in the Northern Province since the country is liberated from the grip of terrorism, he said.

"The Posts and Telecommunications Ministry has drawn special attention on the development of the posts and telecommunications sector in the Northern Province.

"A strong bond between North and other parts of the country has to be developed. For that the posts and telecommunications sector will play a major role as communication is necessary to build links," Minister Kumaratunga added.

Northern Province Deputy Postmaster General Weerasingam Kumaraguru said mail transportation was seriously affected by the scarcity of mail transportation vehicles. Using these vehicles postal services in Northern province could be improved. Due to the peaceful atmosphere posts and telecommunications sector is rapidly progressing.
