Two UNP candidates seek result annul

Two unsuccessful UNP candidates at the general election yesterday filed a petition in the Court of Appeal seeking to annul the election results in respect to the Nuwara Eliya District.

Two petitioners U. Mailwanagam and S. Sathasivam cited the Election Commissioner, the Nuwara Eliya District Returning Officer, all the candidates who contested the election as respondents.

The petitioners complained of the occurrence of election malpractices and sought a declaration that the election results are null and void. They are also seeking an order for a recount and to re-scrutinise all the votes. They further sought a declaration that they be duly elected as MPs.
