Steel Corp to install new rolling mill
Ceylon Steel Corporation Ltd (formerly known as CHICO) will
modernized plant operations with the state-of-the-art rolling line, a
first of it’s kind in South Asian countries. A total investment of US$
18 million as a second phase of investment, company press release said.
The project will be commissioned by the third quarter of 2011 and
promises to produce high quality QTB rebar used in the construction
industry along with many other profiles.
Ceylon Steel Corporation Ltd, the largest producer of steel under the
brand name “Lanwa” was acquired by UAE based Onyx Group in September
2009. Danieli Morgardshammar, world leaders in steel plant technology
have joined hands with Ceylon Steel Corporation Ltd to supply the
rolling mill enabling the company to produce 250,000 tons of steel
products per annum.
This enhanced capacity will cater the increasing demands for the
infrastructural and housing developments in Sri Lanka.
The growing demand for rolled steel required by housing sector, large
infrastructural constructions like roads, bridges, dams and industrial /
commercial buildings can be easily met by the products rolled with new
plant.
The compact design of the plant and the optimized process technology,
enables the company to save energy consumption in both the electricity
and furnace oil. |
