Anoma makes statement at Fort police

General Sarath Fonseka's wife Anoma Fonseka yesterday morning made a statement to the Fort Police in the chambers of the Court officer, on the direction of the Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Lanka Jayaratne. She made her statement to an officer attached to the Fort police for nearly one hour in the presence of her lawyers.

The Judge also directed the Colombo Central Senior SP to inquire into the incident took place at the Fort Police station on April 21, where two policemen had removed several pictures of the lawyers who represented Anoma Fonseka, and submit a comprehensive report to Court on the next date, May 7.

Earlier the Court issued notice on Anoma Fonseka and several others to make statements in connection with an incident took place opposite the Fort Railway station.

When Anoma and others went to the Fort Police station on April 21, as requested by the Court, with their lawyers two policemen had video them arriving at the police station premises. Later Senior Counsel Nalin Ladduwahetti, Senior Counsel for Anoma, complaint to the Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge that two policemen in uniform had removed their pictures while at the police station premises.

He objected and told the policemen not to take their photos.

On the submissions made by Senior Counsel Ladduwahetti the Additional District Judge issued notice on the OIC Fort Police to appear before Court yesterday.

The OIC Fort Police, who appeared on notice before Court yesterday, said that he was unaware about the incident took place at the Fort Police station premises on April 21.

He came to know about the incident through the newspapers on the following day.

Answering the Judge the OIC apologized that he had made a wrong statement earlier in open Court about the incident.

The Judge also directed the others including Arjuna Ranatunga to make their statements in Court premises on May 7.
