Former Labour Relations and Manpower Minister Mervyn Silva took oaths
as Mass Media and Information Deputy Minister before President Mahinda
Rajapaksa yesterday.
Silva who contested the Kelaniya electorate under the UPFA secured
the third place in terms of preferential votes in the Gampaha district
by obtaining 151,085 votes.
Born on March 25, 1944, Silva received his primary education at
Kahawatte Methodist College and secondary education at Beliatta Maha
Vidyalaya and Vidyathunga Pirivena in Weligama. He became a National
List MP from the People's Alliance in 2000. Hewa Koparage Mervyn Silva
was one time Cooperative Wholesale Establishment SLFP Trade Union
Chairman. |
