* Govt will never breach masses’ confidence
* Join hands to develop country
* Alliance led by SLFP in power four times
The Government’s first priority will be to add reforms to the
Constitution to accelerate development programs as mentioned in the
Mahinda Chinthana Idiri Dekma policy program, SLFP General Secretary
Maithripala Sirisena said. Changes to the proportional representation
electoral system will be brought to create opportunities for voters to
elect their representative from their own electorates, he added.
Sirisena was speaking at the UPFA’s maiden media conference after the
general elections at the Mahaweli Centre auditorium yesterday.
He said the Government is keen to conduct the next Local Government
election in accordance with a new representation system.
Commenting on the victorious mandate obtained by the UPFA at the last
General elections, he said the number of seats won by the SLFP is 124.
The alliance led by the SLFP had come to power four times while the UNP
was able to hold power twice under the Constitution of 1978, he said.
“The Government will never breach the people’s confidence at the
Presidential and the General elections to make Sri Lanka the miracle of
Asia,” he stressed.
UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha said the masses had given
the power to form a stable government as requested at the General
elections.
Premajayantha appealed to all political parties to join hands with
the Government to achieve expected development targets without
considering political differences. |
