Suvadiviya to counter dengue menace

The Green Star Dengue prevention and Suvadiviya Physical Training programs organized by the Colombo Municipal Council will be launched from Town Hall premises today.

The Green Star Home program is launched for the 10th successive year to create awareness among the public and also to get rid of potential mosquito breeding sites in view of the expected massive dengue epidemic this year, CMC Public Health Department Head Dr Pradeep Kariyawasam told the Daily News yesterday.

The Suvadiviya program is conducted to give an opportunity to urban dwellers in under-served settlements to take part in the physical training activities, he added.

“Both programs are organized to commemorate “World Health Day” on April 24, Dr. Kariyawasam said.

CMC has identified over 80,000 families are living in 2,000 under-served settlements in the Colombo Municipal area.
