Palmyrah boost in Jaffna

The Government will grant a Rs. 20 million soft loan to 20 small scale entrepreneurs to start and improve Palmyrah products in the Jaffna Peninsula.

Northern Governor G.A. Chandrasiri said as part of the Uthuru Vasanthaya program (Northern Spring project) the Government will improve the livelihood of people in Jaffna and develop their local business, particularly Palmyrah products. “Around 30 local small entrepreneurs will gather at the Jaffna Provincial Council to discuss about their business and submit a report.

Some 20 small scale entrepreneurs will be selected among the 30 and each will be granted one million rupees,” Chandrasiri told the Daily News.

A capital of Rs.1 million will be granted as a soft loan to improve their Palmyrah products. There is an increasing demand for the Palmyra products in the local market, Chandrasiri said.
