Najeeb A Majeed

‘Glowing star’ for people of Trincomalee

Minister Najeeb A Majeed is a prominent politician given birth by the Trincomalee district. He is the son of late Abdul Majeed, who is still called and known as the Chief of Mutur. Late Abdul Majeed excelled in politics as an SLFP politician. He was an eloquent speaker and responsible for laying a strong foundation for the development of the Trincomalee district.

Islam doctrines

Following his father’s footsteps, Najeeb continues to serve the people, as a politician. He never antagonize nor criticise his opponents or anyone who dissents to his ideology and politics. He never hurt the feelings of any politician or anyone. In meetings and platforms, he speaks with gentleness and politeness.

He is a pious follower of Islam. He practices the doctrines of Islam. Whenever he attends meetings, if he hears the sound of ‘Call for Prayers’, he would immediately rush to Mosque and after worshipping only he would attend the work, where he has last left. It is very rare to see such a politician now days.

In contemporary politics, we could see the co-ordinating officers of Minister acts with lot of authority when they deal with high officials of Government Department. They would say, “I am the co-ordinator of the so and so Minister. You must immediately complete the work through whom I am sending.” Saying so, they hurt the feelings of Government officials. But Minister Majeed had no such aggressive attitude. He gets things done in a smooth approach. He never boasts of his achievements in platforms and meetings. He has the ability of doing things with ease and polite.

Infrastructure facilities

Najeeb A Majeed who entered the last Parliament as an MP from Muslim Congress had joined the ruling party, knowing that he would not get an opportunity to serve the public, having been in the Opposition. Serving as the Minister of Co-operatives, while working hard for the Co-operative Development, he does a yeoman service to his constituents in Trincomalee district. The time when he started representing Trincomalee was a time of great sorrow and sufferings to the public. Trincomalee district was hit by tsunami. Kinniya library building is supposed to be the largest structure in the East.

Since Minister Najeeb A Majeed was given the portfolio of Co-operatives Minister, he has been steering many development works in several villages irrespective of caste, creed, race and religion.

The pride and honour in carving out Kinniya Urban Council and upgrading it into Kinniya Urban Council and Pradeshiya Sabha goes to him. He is taking action to establish a Pradeshiya Sabha to Kurinchakerny considering its dense population and the need of its inhabitants.

In the upcoming Parliamentary General Election, Minister Najeeb A Majeed is contesting in UPFA ticket. The President belongs to same UPFA will be in power for another seven years. It cannot be imagined how the people of Trincomalee District will prosper, if Minister Najeeb A Majeed is elected under the ‘Betel Leaf Symbol’ to represent the Trincomalee District as a Member of Parliament. Further, our President Mahinda Rajapaksa has full confident and trust with the Minister.
