No power cuts after 2005

Electricity supply without any interruption or power cuts after 2005, is a clear indication that our Government was successful in serving people responsibly, Power and Energy Minister W. D. J. Seneviratne said.

He was addressing election meetings at Rakwana, Godakawela and Niyangama in support of the PA candidates in the Rakwana electorate.

The people of the Rakwana thanked the Minister for supplying power even to the rural areas continuously.

He said when he took over the Ministry in 2005 the country had a severe problem for the power supply since we were not producing enough power for our requirements. But under the directives of the President Mahinda Rajapaksa we initiated mega projects to generate power. Now the problem is totally resolved. People were kept in darkness due to this energy problem from time to time in the past.

During my tenure of office, I embarked on projects to construct three mega power plants. Before 2005 not even a single power plant was started. Now people are benefiting from our far-sighted policy.
