Case challenging crossovers put off for May 19

The Colombo District Court yesterday put off hearing the case filed by two Moneragala District UNP candidates praying for an injunction to declare null and void the un-dated resignation affidavit from them by the party to prevent crossovers, for May 19.

The Bench comprised Colombo District Judge Lafar Thahir.

In this case Ratnayake Mudiyanselage Ranjith Madduma Bandara and Jayasundera Mudiyanselage Ananda Kumarasiri cited UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and General Secretary Tissa Attanayake as defendants.

Plaintiffs prayed to declare null and void the un-dated letters of signed resignation that were obtained by defendants to prevent crossovers.

They claimed by this action, the party has breached their Parliamentary privileges if they are elected to Parliament at the April 8 election.

V.W. Kularatne Associates was the instructing Attorney for the plaintiff and Dr. Harsha Cabraal PC with Attorneys at-Law Yamunu Balasooriya and Niroshanee Wijesekara appeared for defendants.
