Project to establish herbal gardens

The Indigenous Medicine Ministry has launched a project to establish 100 herbal gardens, a Ministry source told to the Daily News.

Herbal gardens are now almost complete in the Kandy- Galagedara, Kurunegala- Pannala and Mawathagama.

The Indigenous Medicine Ministry has been providing the respective Pradeshiya Sabhas with herbal plants and supervising the program. The Ministry will supply labour to maintain each herbal garden under the direction of Bandaranaike Ayurveda Research Institute Navinna.

The Temple lands and lands near water reservoirs are given priority to establish herbal gardens by the Ministry.

A Ministry source said the objective of the program is to preserve rare herbal plants, protect water reservoirs and create a good environment.
