India donates cement for IDP re-settlement
The Indian Government donated 400,000 cement bags valued at Rs 200
million to be used for the resettlement of the Internally Displaced
People of the North, yesterday.
The donation was made at a simple ceremony held at the warehouses of
Ultratech Cement Lanka (Pvt) Ltd., Peliyagoda by Indian High
Commissioner Ashok K. Kantha to Nation Building and Infrastructure
Development Ministry Secretary W.K.K. Kumarasiri.
The donation was in addition to 2,600 metric tons of roofing sheets
donated by India for rebuilding the houses of the resettled IDPs and the
food packages and non-food items given to these families during the
resettlement program.
Ministry Secretary Kumarasiri accepting the donation, said during the
height of the war the Indian Government provided food packs, clothes
packs, kitchen sets, first aid kits to the value of Rs 610 million.
He thanked the Indian Government on behalf of the Government for the
continued assistance rendered towards the rehabilitation and
resettlement program of the North and East.
