FITIS pioneers training of ex-combatants
The Jaffna Infotel - the flagship Information and Communication
Technology (ICT) exhibition under the theme of "Re-awakening with ICT",
organized by the Federation of Information Technology Industry Sri Lanka
(FITIS) was successfully concluded at the Jaffna Wembady Girls' High
School recently.

Mini Infotel Jaffna was another regional exhibition in a series of
exhibitions that is planned to be carried out in partnership with the
Presidential Task force for English to take ICT forward.
Parallel to this exhibition, several other educational activities
such as the career guidance program for schoolchildren with ICTA,
Innovation and entrepreneurship training for unemployed graduates and a
Business Forum on using ICT in small and medium (SME) businesses were
also carried out.
FITIS commenced a 15 day training program in ICT, English language
and career skills for ex-combatants immediately after the exhibition.
During the exhibition, more than 500 former cadres in rehabilitation
camps actively participated in the workshops on 'Innovation and
Entrepreneurship' that were also organized by FITIS.
The 15 day training program in ICT, English language and career
skills is delivered with the assistance of the USAID who provided the
ASAP curriculum and the support of the Education for Knowledge Society
Project (EKSP) of the Ministry of Education.
Over 100 ex-combatants have already been trained in two camps in
Jaffna (Thellipalai and Kaithaday) and two camps in Vavuniya (Settikulam
and Pompemadu). More are to be trained in the coming months.
The one day workshops on 'Innovation and Entrepreneurship' were
conducted in Thellipalai and Kaithaday centres.
Ichiban Consultants India, Chief Strategist /Director Raj Sankar
invited by the FITIS Chief Executive Officer Damith Hettihewa and
Microimage mStudio Program Manager Duxon Murugesan participated in the
workshops as resource personnel.
