International Women's Day celebrations in Nepal:
Ramya Weerakoon represents Sri Lanka
Women's Chamber of Industry and Commerce Immediate Past Chairperson
and the SAARC Chamber of Women Entrepreneur Council Vice Chairperson
Ramya Weerakoon represented the country at the 100th International
Women's Day Celebrations in Katmandu, Nepal held recently.
This four day program focused on women entrepreneurs from Nepal and
the South Asian Region and the event included taking significant steps
towards women's equity in trade by promoting their market linkages.
It also focused on the empowerment of women through skill development
and learning to explore and make use of the opportunities. The core
organizations involved in the event were the Federation of Women
Entrepreneurs Association of Nepal (FWEAN), the Federation of Nepalese
Chamber of Commerce and Industry Women Entrepreneurship Development
Committee (FNCCI - WEDC) and the Fair Trade Group Nepal (FTG).
The event consisted of an International Women's SME's Business Meet
and a trade fair, talk program and a workshop on brand building.
This was a good opportunity for all the participants from the region,
where they were able to showcase their products and widen their skills
and knowledge.
The talk program was chaired by Dr. Kiran Bedi. She shared her
challenges and achievements with the audience, during her career
encompassing a period of 30 years.
Weerakoon was given a token of appreciation from the FWEAN for her
contributions towards SAARC Chambers of Women Entrepreneur Council.
