Pirivenas help uplift Buddhist education

Everyone should appreciate the services rendered by Pirivenas for the
uplift of Buddhist Education in this country, said the Most Ven.
Galagama Attadassi Anunayaka Thera of the Asgiriya Chapter when he
opened a new Budu Medura at the Asgiriya Maha Viharaya Pirivena
yesterday. The Budu Medura costing Rs. 5 million was donated by
Indrakumara de Silva, proprietor of Indra Traders, Kandy.
The most Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharakkhita Mahanayaka Thera of the
Asgiriya Chapter presided.
Ven. Attadassi Thera said Buddhist education could be considered as
the lifeblood of the country's education system.
The Asgiriya Pirivena had rendered a vital segment of service in
propagating Buddhist education, he said.
Asgiriya Pirivena Parivenadhipati Ven. Narampanawe Ananda Thera said
the Asgiriya Pirivena catered to 350 clerical and lay students at
present and it had a qualified teaching staff as well.
The effort made by the government to uplift Buddhist Education should
be highly commended, he said.
Central Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa also spoke. Chief
Minister Sarath Ekanayaka was also present. |
