SLTB's initiatives:
Front seat for female clergy
Irangika RANGE
The Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) has decided to reserve the front
left side seat in SLTB buses for female clergy.
SLTB Deputy General Manager G.A. Livinis told the Daily News as of
now, there were no reserved seats in buses for female clergy although
earlier three rows of the front seats in buses were reserved for
clergymen, pregnant women and disabled persons.
He said this decision was taken by the newly established the Seva
Vanitha unit of the Transport Ministry headed by Pradeepa Dharmadasa for
the well being and welfare of women.
"Our target is to provide a better transport service for all
segments," he said.
Meanwhile, the SLTB has taken measures to launch a special bus
service for the benefit of working women within the next few weeks.
The bus service will operate during office hours in the morning and
evening.
New bus services will commence from five destinations in Negombo,
Nittambuwa, Avissawella, Moratuwa and within the Colombo city every
morning. The return journey will commence from the Pettah bus stand
around 4.45pm.
He said the SLTB could arrange the special bus services for women, if
employers request. |
