Ode to light and shade

The colours and chiselled lines in Chandrasena Perera's images speaks
a thousand words. Each picture had managed to reveal striking
characteristics emerging out of the shades hold the viewers' eyes and it
is this quality which had helped him carve a niche in the field.
Though he had started off as a painter under the guidance of painter
and film director Joe Dambulugala and even ventured to the designing
scene, he soon realized that his talent lay with photography. He took to
the subject like a duck to water and soon had a collection of
enthralling images to his name.
The multi talented personality then joined the National Photographic
Art Society while working with black and white imagery. He gradually
experimented with colour techniques and took up colour transparency.
"The media is perfect for pictorial work. Black and white is suitable
for artistic photography. It is a medium I have mastered throughout the
years," said the photography who holds a collection of nearly 5000
images highlighting the beauty of the island.

He had entered his work for local and international competitions and
had clinched accolades for the creations.
His passion for the profession is so great that he was up every
morning capturing images in and around Chennai, India, even a day prior
to being admitted for a scheduled quadruple bypass surgery.
He is professionally a computer reader, figuratively a father figure
to many students who engage in the subject. He is well known in the reel
scene as a script writer to feature films like Biththi Hatara and
Thuttriri Mal. He had worked with well known filmmakers such as
Sugathapala de Silva, Parakrama de Silva, Pathiraja L.S. Dayananda and
H.D. Premasiri. He was honoured by the OCIC with the award for best
short film produced in 1982.
He even clinched an award at the Austrian National exhibition in
2008. |
